With 2023 in full swing, we’re seeing plenty of wedding events begin to take shape around the Boston area. This year, it’s all about glamor and elegance and the balance between the two, along with new menu choices, updated color schemes, a shift in bridal parties, and what we’re seeing in bridal veils. From the planners at JRE, here are some wedding trends we expect to see more of in 2023:

2023 Wedding Trends:

Intimate or Larger, It’s All About Elegance

While the pandemic certainly played a role in many couples opting to downsize their weddings, it’s safe to say that the intimacy of a smaller ceremony and reception has remained quite popular. Smaller ceremonies prioritize close friends and family above all else, and because of that, it can make an event feel even more special.

But smaller and more intimate weddings are not necessarily the same as simple. As experienced intimate wedding planners, some of our most elaborate and luxurious weddings have been with an “intimate” number of guests.

At the same time, larger, grander weddings and receptions are also returning as more people grow tired of pandemic restrictions. Whether you’re planning a multi-day wedding or a single-day event, many couples are going big, especially for the reception. It depends on taste, but big celebrations are just the ticket for couples with grand party aspirations after a few quiet years of post-pandemic living.

Whether you choose an intimate wedding or prefer something on a grander scale, adding a heightened sense of elegance is a popular theme. For some, it’s about the choice of venue. For others, it may be their dress code, decor, or food service. More and more, we’re seeing imaginative, sophisticated, and luxurious wedding celebrations in 2023.

Unique Food & Beverage Choices

Brides and grooms seeking to create a more personalized dining and bar experience are opting for a wide range of food and beverage alternatives. Are you thinking about appetizers all night long? Charcuterie boards filled with meats, cheeses, and fruits are great for satiating guests before the main course, but some couples have elected to skip the entree altogether in favor of a night filled with sweet and savory snacks.

Vegetarian food options are also quite popular with couples seeking something non-traditional. Caterers are becoming more inventive with their menus to accommodate these new trends; it’s exciting to see what will come out of the kitchen! Caprese cups, anyone?

New Colors for 2023

When Pantone announces its Color of The Year, you know it will trend with wedding color schemes. This year, the color is Viva Magenta. According to Pantone’s website, [Viva Magenta] vibrates with vim and vigor. It is a shade rooted in nature descending from the red family and expressive of a new signal of strength. Viva Magenta is brave and fearless, and a pulsating color whose exuberance promotes a joyous and optimistic celebration, writing a new narrative. Need we say more?!

In addition to the boldness of magenta, we’re anticipating greater use of more subdued colors. Terra cotta and other earth tones are also growing in popularity.

Smaller Bridal Parties or Maybe None At All

There’s a trend toward smaller wedding parties this year; in some cases, no bridal party at all. Prioritizing just a few close friends or family members creates a more intimate experience, and it’s less chaotic for brides and grooms to organize, allowing for greater flexibility.

Printed Floral Veils

Whether birdcage, shoulder-length or full-length, bridal veils are an important accessory. Remember, your guests see you from behind for much of your ceremony!  While lace is very traditional and appliques have been popular in recent years, this year, we are seeing soft and elegant printed floral veils, adding a pop of unique style to your wedding ceremony.
